Concerts for 2017

VISIT TO YORK

During the last few weeks The Rhayader and District Male Voice Choir have been very busy rehearsing for their forthcoming visit to York.

On Friday the 2nd of September the Choir leave Mid-Wales for a four day tour of York and the surrounding district in Yorkshire. During this time the choir will be staying at the Nova Hotel in the centre of York City. The visit has been arranged by Mr Charles Kightley who lives in Yorkshire and is a frequent visitor to Mid Wales. Following a recent visit to the area Mr Kightley attended a concert given by the choir at Llangunllo, and was so impressed by the performance of the choir that evening that he was determined to take the Choir back to Yorkshire and perform on a much larger stage.

During their stay in York the Choir will perform two concerts in the area. The first one on Saturday 3rd Sept will take place at Saint Denys Church Walmgate Central York at 7-30 pm. And the second concert will be the following evening on Sunday the 4th Sept at Holy Trinity Church Elvington York at 6-30pm.

The Choir, as usual, will be conducted by their Musical Director Mr David Hatton and on this occasion the Accompanist will be Mrs Ann Bufton, who is the regular accompanist to The Builth Wells Male Voice Choir, but has very kindly agreed to assist the Rhayader Choir for this prestigious tour. Also accompanying the choir and acting as Compere at both concerts will be local farmer Mr Philip Gayther who no doubt will confuse and amuse the Yorkshire audiences with his Radnorshire wit and humour.

This week spokesman for the Choir, Mr Graham Benbow, told our Reporter that the Choir had been looking forward to this visit for some while and hoped that they would give some pleasure to Yorkshire Audience with what Mid-Wales had to offer.
